Very interesting, only Tesla (and Polestar) are below their EPA ranges. Everyone beats the EPA. It gives me a lot more confidence on road trips.

Going by the Tesla’s performance, which I assume is mostly due to the wheels and tires, looks like a big hit in terms of efficiency, although it’s not apples to apples, because 2020 vs 2018 M3

Click to expand… Monroney’s stickers show “Highway”, but for EVs it shows in the useless MPGe figure (although you can use it when comparing combined MPGe to highway MPGe: for ID .4, it’s 97 MPGe combined, 89 MPG). 104 MPGe highway, city. It would make more sense to show highway range or even highway kWh per 100 miles. Also, the EPA’s test “road” is nowhere near normal driving at 75 mph.

Regardless, I’m very happy to see numbers significantly higher than 250 miles, and in conditions that don’t look forced.

Click to expand… So you’re saying he paid 81 but received less because the stations are inefficient? It’s like having a leaky gas pipe and having to pay for the gas that ends up on the sidewalk.

The unit indicates the amount of kW it emitted but not the amount received by the battery. A five to 10 percent loss is normal, so 81 is more like 72-75.

Then you have the resistance of the battery cells themselves.

We usually only charge 80%. We tend to find the GOM, after charging, pretty close to the actual mileage we can achieve. My wife uses the car for her commute, which covers about half the highway and half the local streets. After our last 80% charge, the GOM showed 229 miles. Extrapolating this, we get 285. This also reflects the 3.7 mph shown on the car’s data display.
