The ZUS Smart Vehicle Monitor Mini is a plug-and-play device that, once installed, can automatically log your trips (and easily export them for IRS-compliant reports at tax time), monitor your engine’s health with real-time alerts, and scan your car whenever the check engine light comes on. The ZUS Smart Vehicle Health Monitor Mini kit comes with simple instructions, a small black OBD-II port connector and a top cover.

All you have to do is snap the cover into the section containing all the small circuit boards, leaving the OBD-II pins exposed.

Once you do this, the ZUS Smart Vehicle Monitor Mini will start receiving information from your vehicle’s system.

Notice the three dots at the bottom of the dashboard screen. The first screen shows what is currently happening on your computer. Not much info yet as I have it sitting in the driveway (inserted the module).

The following screen will expand over time with more information as I drive my vehicle. For example, how long my engine idles, how long I’m accelerating, and to be fair – clicking on the tile shows that driving between 55 and 60 mph is generally the most economical. . Our freeway speed limits are 70-80 and due to the pandemic I only use them once a week, when I let Angel run for groceries, but I show more “speed” because of it. Rapid Acceleration and Hard Braking are the other tiles, and basically let you know if you’re driving competently or trying to snag my “lead-foot lipset” title ( ha – good luck! ). A higher rev will let you know if you continue to drive in a more fuel-efficient rev range.

The final dashboard page contains tiles where you can add multiple system controls that you want to monitor. However, due to OBD-II data limitations, a warning appears that the more tiles you add, the less each item will update.

The best feature, however, is found in the Security sub-menu. If you click on it, you will be prompted for the first full system scan.

My Jeep didn’t come with a backup camera, but I added an aftermarket camera that isn’t shown.

My vehicle has been very well maintained, but has had a few minor issues in the five years I’ve owned it. If something is found during the scan, the app will explain what’s going on and walk me through a tutorial on what I need to do to fix it – maybe even myself if possible. Currently, there are over 150 video tutorials showing you how to fix each B-code yourself, with over 250 videos coming soon. If any of my scans return an error code in the future, the corresponding DIY video will be displayed on my app and sent to my email.

There are no hidden charges for using the Smart Vehicle Monitor Mini, and only the data necessary to provide the features you use through the ZUS app is collected. For example, if I use the mileage recording feature for tax deduction, the ZUS app will record all the places and times of my trips to meet the IRS requirement. If I use the Auto Car Finder feature, it will use the location data from the connected device to record my parking location, so I can locate my car even in the most obscure location.
